2nd Grade Tier 3 Reading

Word Work- We have worked with the sounds for ch, sh, wh and th.  We have highlighted vowel clusters such as: ou, ow, oo, oi, and oy.  We are adding the endings -s, -ing, and -ed to base words. We sorted words by the vowel combos -ear and -eat. 
Word Bags- We have added the following words to our bags: gave, again, even, never, away, upset, thing, why, from, these, both, asked, done, many most, sure, everyone, great, grew, next, while, other, over, dear, seat, after and across.
Writing- We are working on summarizing the stories we read in our writing journals. 
Reading- Keep reading the books that come home each day!!!

1st Grade Tier 2 Reading

Word Work- We continue to review letter sound recognition. We learned a vowel poem to and are practicing short vowels. We practiced reading a variety of CVC words.
Word Bags- We have added the following words to our word bags: the, like, see, he, has, she, then, for, but, am, said and little. 
Writing- We sorted letters by shape to help us understand their orientation on the page. In our writing journals we are writing simple sentences that relate to our stories that we read. 
Reading- Keep reading the books that come home each day!!!

Kindergarten Tier 3 Reading

Word Work- We learned the poems "Apples", "I Love Chocolate" and "Rain on the Rooftops".  We built name puzzles and compared letters with our friends.  We are working on rhyming using picture cards, this would be a good activity to practice at home.  
Word Bag- We have added the following words: I, can, see,    
Vocabulary- Comparing big and little -Names of animals and their babies- Over/Under 
-Body Parts 
Writing- We are writing sentences together on the whiteboard related to stories we have read.  We are beginning to transfer some of our ideas to our writing journal.  We are enjoying adding our own illustrations to our sentences.  
Reading- We have read many books including: At The Market, Rex, Funny Things, The Baby Animals, Over the River and My Big Bear. Keep practicing these stories as they come home.  After reading return them back in their bag.

2nd grade tier 3 RTi reading

We started our week with a get to know you activity.  We read and wrote about scarecrows.  We sorted words by a variety of consonant clusters.  We worked on the vowel digraphs-ou & ow.  We reviewed the sh sound as well as some contractions.  The stories we read this we were; Meli at School, Pigs New House and Super Fox.  Look for these books to come home daily.

1st grade tier 2 RTi reading

We began this week with a color scarecrow activity.  We learned a poem about Winshield Wipers.  We added the words go, to, & the to our word bags.  We read the books Mom and Dad.  Look for these books to come home in your child's reading bag.

Kindergarten
Reading- We are working on building words with a variety of words bases.  We have focused the past few weeks on short a and i word bases.  Our popcorn words continue to grow new words include: four, nine, said, this, that, new, soon, went and come.  We are continuing to work on rhyming, this continues to be a hard concept for many of the students.  
Math- Our math centers included numbers through 20, using 10 frames, addition and subtraction.

1st grade tier 3 reading
We continued to work on consonant clusters, focusing our attention to sh, th, ch and wh words.  We looked at how words can change when we add the -ing ending.  We reviewed contractions.  Keep reading the books that come home each day!!

  1.  Kindergarten
      Language Arts- We have been working on reading words from the same word families.  We focused on -at, -am, -an & -ap.  New popcorn words include: will, have, must, one, two & three.  For writing we are focusing on lowercase letter formations.  We met magic c bunny and learned about how he helps us to make the letters c, o, and s.
    Math- We continue to work with numbers 1-20.  We are practicing adding and subtracting using all sorts of manipulatives.

    1st grade tier 3 reading- We worked on recognizing words that have a y as their ending to make a long i or e sound.  We also looked at the -ay pattern that makes a long a sound.  We are looking at words that begin with consonant clusters so far we have focused on sm-,sl-,st-,sk-,tr-, gr-,br-, & fr-.  Some of the daily books are becoming more challenging.  Make sure you practice reading them at home to build up fluency.

  1. Kindergarten-
    Language Arts- We learned the sounds "ar" and "er" to complete all of the jolly phonics sounds for the year. Our new popcorn words were: look, good, & jump. We finished working on uppercase letter formations and will begin lowercase next week.
    Math- Our math centers all revolved around the celebration of our 100th day of school.  We traced our hands and counted the fingers by 5's to 100.  We made a bubble gum machine with 100 gumballs.  We made fruit loop necklaces with 100 pieces of cereal strung to them.

    1st grade tier 3 reading- We brainstormed words that end in -ing.  We learned about contractions and located them in the stories that we read this week.

  1. Kindergarten 
    Language Arts- We have learned the sounds for "ou", "oi", "ue" and "q".  New popcorn words include: here, our, out, get, help & now.
    Math- We are working on addition and subtraction of numbers through 10, using many kinds of manipulatives.
    1st grade tier 3 reading- We worked on the following word endings:-ay, -ent, -ee, & -ack. Continue to read the books that come home daily as well as try some of the other activities on your child's daily homework sheet.

  1. Kindergarten


    Language Arts- So far this new year we have learned 
    2 songs; January and Dr. King.  We have learned the sounds for sh, ch, th and ng.
    Words to add to the popcorn list: the, you, down, she, he & be.  In handwriting 
    we have been working on "magic C" letters.  These letters are made my making a 
    C first, they include: C, G, O, Q and S in the uppercase letters.
    Math- We continue to work with numbers 0-10.  We have been focusing on adding 
    and subtracting with these numbers using manipulatives.

     1st grade tier 3 reading
    We have been working on long vowel words with the silent e both reading and 
    spelling these words.  We also have focused on sounds you hear at the ends of 
    words.  
    Benchmarking took place at the beginning of the month and we reviewed data this
    week.  Notes will be going home with report cards next week regarding changes
    to tier 2/3 reading.
